Jeannine opened the meeting and attendees introduced themselves.

Committee Reports

Ambassador
Lorsi discussed the successful CTC cookout which was fun for those who attended. New guests Frank Norris, Larry Wood and Bill Pickett were welcomed.
CompuKids
Bob Keller said that on the Nov. 17th CompuKids Donation Day 10-15 recipients will be receiving computers. A partnership with the Shop for Cops is in development for the holidays. By year end we will have distributed nearly 350 computers.
Golf
The 2008 outing will be held on May 15th at The Links at Challedon. Sponsorship packages are available.
Nomination Committee

A slate of Officers and Directors who expressed interest to date was presented by Josh Kohn. Board candidates up for election at present include: Judy Stem, VP; Denise Beaver, Secretary; Richard Lord; David Shaffer; Rich Rubinstein; Jeff Selby and Isabel DeFeo.

It was announced that any other member in good standing who wanted to run for a Board position should see Josh by then end of the meeting .Elections will be held during the November membership meeting by balloting of members present.

Technology Advisory Committee
The date for Council of Governments’ (COG) seminar is January 16, 2008. The goal is to have 20-30 attendees from municipalities. The first seminar will be on data management presented by Thom Bethune, Ken Harris, Doug Heck, Brian Holsonbake, and Jeff Selby. The initial seminar will be followed by seminars on communications, and disaster recovery planning. Members are encouraged to join the committee.
Website
Isabel again encouraged members to submit news to be featured on the website. Memberships can now be renewed online.
2007 Technically Speaking Dinner and Fundraiser

Technically Speaking Committee Chairman Richard Lord provided information about the upcoming annual dinner and fundraising event at Best Western. Sponsor packages are: Producer $1,500 (receive 10 tickets), Director $1,000 (receive 4 tickets) and Rising Star $500 (receive 2 tickets). Sponsorship packages will include dinner tickets and pre/post event recognition. Sponsorships and tickets are available on the CTC website. Dress is Black tie optional. Plans for next year are also underway if any members want to join the committee.

Jeannine mentioned two awards will be presented this year:

Techie of the Year - Nominees of this award should be CTC members who volunteer their time and energy to support the Tech Council in ways that go above and beyond typical volunteer efforts. These are people who not only do what they say they are going to do, but often do much more. They care deeply about the Tech Council and it shows by their willingness to support many CTC efforts and events throughout the entire year.

Tech Company of the Year - Nominees of this award should be companies that are members of the CTC who have done the most to support the growth and mission of the Tech Council. These are companies that have graciously donated their time, resources and expertise to the CTC and by doing so have allowed the CTC to evolve, strengthen and grow.

Individual and company nominations should be sent to Jeannine by October 15th. Winners will be announced at the dinner.

Holiday Gathering
Mark your calendars for the annual holiday gathering on December 20th. Details will be forthcoming.
Taneytown History Museum “Holiday of Trees” and the CTC Tree
Jeannine bought a tree for CTC to decorate with a technology theme. Members may donate technology-related items to use in decorating the tree by Nov. 17th.
FallFest
Jeannine thanked members who volunteered at FallFest and thanked Matt Day for software book donations which were distributed at the CTC FallFest booth.
Upcoming Events

Tuesday, October 16th Boscov's Friends Helping Friends Scholarship Fundraiser See Jeannine for tickets. The goal is to raise $1,000 for two $500 scholarships to be awarded to Carroll Community College students majoring in computer science, engineering, mathematics or any of the sciences.

Friday, Nov. 16th - 1:00 p.m. - CompuKids Prep/Setup Day

Saturday, Nov. 17th - 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. - CompuKids Donation Day

Saturday, December 8th - Technically Speaking Dinner 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Westminster Best Western.

Member Announcements

  • Denise announced the Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center Fall Job Fair on October 17 from 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm at 224 N. Center Street in Westminster. Employers and job seekers are encouraged to attend.

  • Doug Heck reminded everyone about the CCPS Foundation Gala Event to be held Friday to honor Governor William Donald Shaffer. Tickets are still available.

  • Jeannine reminded everyone to visit and contribute to the CTC forum which is on the CTC homepage. Everyone should have a Log in, but if you do not remember it, contact Jeannine.

  • Jeff Selby announced DP Solutions is partnering with Juniper Networks to host a free seminar scheduled on November 1, 2007 at the Charles I. Ecker Business Training Center in Columbia, MD. The purpose of this event is to inform technology IT specialists about the latest in Juniper’s network security options and how they can create a flexible high-performance network environment while maintaining security and control. The event will feature Juniper Networks’ market-leading Secure Access SSL VPN platform and Unified Access Control (UAC) solutions, as well as live product demonstrations. Representatives from DP Solutions and Juniper Networks will be on hand to offer one-on-one advice and answer questions.

  • Mark Kaidy announced that his company, U.S. Power International, has been dissolved and he is now an engineer at Knorr Brake. Mark also announced an Inventors Club meeting tonight in Eldersburg. See Mark for information about the club.

  • Jeannine announced that the CTC column is now every other Thursday in Carroll County Times Marketplace section. Guest columnists are encouraged to write technology-focused columns 500 words or less and submit them to Jeannine.

  • Ron shared the new CTC brochure which is now available for general distribution to help in member recruitment and public awareness.

  • Ron encouraged individuals to run for a CTC Board positions to help lead the organization.

  • Ron recognized Jeannine Morber’s tenure to date as the new Director and thanked her for her dedication, energy and efforts on behalf of the organization.
