General Announcements
Director Lynn Karr opened the meeting with member introductions. Lynn announced that the Tech Council received a Citation from Aris Melissaratos, Maryland Economic Development.
- New Technology Frontiers Committee
- Barb Schmidt updated the members on the Frontiers committee status. Ten members participated in the first meeting. Barb stated that the Frontier Committee's focus is working to make Carroll County aware of current and upcoming technology. The committee is currently working on developing a formal mission statement. If you are interested in joining this new committee, email Director Lynn Karr.
- Golf Event
- The Golf Event is scheduled for Friday, May 12 at Wakefield Valley. Dave Baxter reminded members to contribute to the event by participating or assisting with the event. Dave challenged all members to secure 2 hole sponsors ($125.00 each).
- Wine Tasting Event with GBTC
- 3 Tech Council members served as Wine Pourers for the GB Tech event: InfoPathways, ITSS and Tier One Technology Partners. Doug Heck of InfoPathways informed members that the event was a good opportunity for networking as he learned about technology resources.
- New Yahoo Group: CTCForum
- Dave Schaffer initiated this idea sharing forum. More details to come.
Event / Committee Reports
- Ambassador
- Mark Pallack stressed that the Tech Council holds different opportunities for each member; the key is to become involved. Alissa is working to gather mission statements from each committee chair. So far only 3 have been received. Please send your committee mission statement to Alissa at aharrington@carrollcc.edu.
- Annual Event
- Richard Lord currently serving as Chair. Innovative ideas and more volunteers needed! This Fall event will serve as a major revenue generator for the Council.
- CompuKids
- Three additional families were given computers on April 12th. The Baltimore Sun is publishing a feature on Compukids for it's April 23rd Carroll Sun Section. Bobby Keller is seeking parts, especially modems and speakers. Acceptable PC donations must be Pentium 3 or above. Several non-profits, including the ARC, are seeking computers from CompuKids.
- Events
- The open house event in March was a success. Judy Stem is looking to repeat again, as the event allowed members to interact and network in a relaxed atmosphere.

- Vollie Award Winner! Technically Correct received 1st place for Best Station Series. Tom Sullivan was honored as volunteer of the year.
Speaker Topic: Maryland Homeland Security
- Mel Blizzard stressed that citizen involvement is key.
- "You can't protect the homeland, until you protect your hometown!"
- "Technology is great, but in a disaster, some of it will fail-it takes people!"
- Members are urged to build relationships with local groups:
- Volunteer Carroll is a Citizen Care Center.
- They offer a free 20 hour course on disaster preparedness.
