General Announcements

There will need to be a slight change in the mission statement to process the tax exempt status. The word "promote" will be removed. It will take approximately 4-6 weeks to clear the process.
A change in meeting time is still undecided. The suggested time/day is 8:30 a.m on the first Wednesday of the month starting in October. A formal notice will be sent when the final decision is made.
LOCATE is almost ready. There is work being done on the interface. Companies must be resident of the county and those that are CTC members will be noted. There may be a link to Economic Development.

Speaker – Mike Bell

Cooperative Extension Agent from the University of Maryland

Mike Bell gave a presentation on technology in the milking industry that included a virtual visit to a working farm. He showed slides from a visit to Denmark and the Netherlands. The farmer can communicate with the system using a cell phone. Neck straps control the cows. This robotic type of milking process creates healthy, happy cows because they have control rather than the farmer having control over their eating and milking times. Most units are in Europe. There are currently none of these systems in Maryland but a Mason Dixon farm is putting in 40.

Discussion – Who Owns The Web

Josh will e-mail the article about hubs and increase of risk of failure. Some concerns include will DC get cut off if New York is hit, mesh format versus hub format, global commerce, UN making play for control, risk - FBI protecting infrastructure. There will be an international summit in November. Internet 2 being created for non-commercial usage.
