General Announcements
- Josh Kohn
- Josh opened the meeting and introduced the Executive Team. Minutes for the March meeting were approved as written.
- Josh introduced and explained a new project for the council, a Virtual Vendor, to help encourage membership. This will be a resource on the website for digital media, engineering services, etc. It is in test mode right now and still needs a filtering process.
- Expected completion is the end of April.
- Linda Gray-Niznik
- Linda Gray-Niznik gave an update on the competition for the Robotics Team along with pictures and how the Tech Council can support the coming year activity. The team is 2 years old. There were 7 participants last year and twice that this year.
Speaker – Gregory Stone
Whiteford, Taylor and Preston
Gregory Stone from Whiteford, Taylor and Preston spoke on Intellectual Properties. He gave an overview of patents and copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. Patents protect with a wide umbrella in all industries. Copyrights protect codes. Trademarks get away from functionality and have a "first used" identity clause. Trade secrets protect information with commercial value.
Gregory explained the difference in each category and how each would be used as well as the time frames and approximate cost of each.
Event / Committee Reports
- Fundraising
- Rich reported that the golf outing is moving along nicely. The hole sponsors are sold out and there are two Bronze sponsors. We still need a Silver and Gold sponsor. There are 7 other sponsorships available ranging from $500 to $750. Lynn is soliciting donations for the Silent Auction and goodie bags. There has been a donation of snack foods. Bob Cage reported the tournament has been posted on the Mt. Airy Chamber website.
- Government Relations
- Karen reported that we have been requested by Steve Powell to work with a Research Team and make recommendations on issues such as the infrastructure of Carroll County. Several members will be working with the project.
- TV Show
- Denise reported the next show is coming to completion and will air soon. There is still help needed for production.
- Marketing
- Josh placed an ad in the Carroll Magazine.
- Membership
- Letters were sent out with invoices per Board decision. We had one member, David Anderson, who has already joined the efforts for the Golf Tournament.
- Website
- Isabel is adding announcements and information to the website as quickly as possible.
- Advisors
- Marc informed us there would be a meeting the tomorrow to discuss what should be done to make people aware the Advisors are available. He is negotiating with the Carroll County Times about a weekly column.
- CompuKids
- Dave announced the placement of 2 computers on Tuesday, April 5. He thanked Lynn for her stewardship and Barb for her diligence. The recipients were somewhat savvy however 1 had no phone for internet access and 1 had to take the computer home in a carriage. The college is offering recipients a free class and the library is donating 1 year of free internet service. Supplies are low and printers are needed.
