Presents Check to Robotics Program
Westminster, MD - The Carroll Technology Council presented a check to the Carroll County Career and Technology Center (CCCTC) to support its FIRST Robotics Program. The check was presented by Tech Council President Ron Harrington to Machine Shop Instructor Tim Blizzard at the Carroll Tech Council's Member Meeting on November 10, held at Carroll Community College.
Robotics Competition
The FIRST (which stands for: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition is a multinational competition in which students are to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is designed to be a career-molding experience—and a lot of fun. It pairs high school students with professionals who work together to design, assemble, test and compete with a robot capable of performing a specified task. The key to FIRST's success is the work of the volunteer mentors, who are professionals, teachers and other adults working with the students. This is Carroll County's third year to participate in the program.
FIRST's Vision is to,
“positively transform culture by inspiring young people, their schools, and communities to appreciate science and technology.”
Learn With Experience
Lynn Karr, Director of the Carroll Technology Council, spoke with Jim Gilford, Engineering Project Lead the Way Instructor at CCCTC. This is Mr. Gilford's first year serving as the Team Advisor. He believes that the process of building the robot is the essential part of this program. It's where the students learn the engineering, software usage, electronics, design, programming, etc. Catherine Engel is Principal of CCCTC, where the robot is being developed.
FIRST Robotics embodies the Carroll Technology Council's mission, which is to provide leadership, information and resources to educate, attract and influence technology in Carroll County. The Tech Council serves a crucial educational and advocacy role in technology awareness and development campaigns.
