Carroll Named Among
Top 10 Digital Counties Nationally
Carroll County is among the Top 10 Digital County Governments in the nation, according to the 2005 Digital Counties Survey. The annual study by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties identifies counties that are using technology to provide a high level of service to their residents.
Counties were asked 22 questions that measured 95 areas, such as whether the meeting agenda of the governing body is available online; whether the public can apply for a job online; and if the county has a strategic plan for using technology across agencies and departments. The Center for Digital Government grouped counties into four categories, based on population. Carroll was ranked No. 9 among counties with a population between 150,000-249,999. Carroll achieved the same ranking in 2003.
"It's great to be recognized nationally for our technology initiatives," said Bart Mathews, administrator for Carroll's Office of Information Technology Services. "We continue to look for new ways to assist county agencies in delivering services to citizens through the use of technology. The Digital Counties Survey confirms we are on the right track."
The Top 10 Digital Counties survey winners will be recognized at an awards reception held in conjunction with NACo's annual conference later this month in Honolulu.
